N.Z. LADIES’ WIN. (Australian <fc N.Z. Gable Association.) MELBOURNE, Feb. 2d. The women’s swimming championships resulted: 100yds. Backstroke Championship— E. Stoekloy (New Zealand) 1, E. Robertson (New South Wales) 2. Won byeight yards. Time 1.22. 220vds Free Style Championship—lv. Miller (New Zealand) 1, li. Dnvey (Now South Wales) 2, IL Law (Now Soutli Wales) ,'L Won by four yards. Time 2.52 3-5. The events were swum at the Surrey Drive. Miss Miller led from the start in the 220 from -Mass Law. At 75 yards she increased her lead to a yard, and 40 yards from the finish bad the raco well in hand. She swam a. well judged race. Miss Mealing (X.S.W.) led at the start of the backstroke competition, and appeared a likely winner, but at 50 yards she veered across the course over the barrier. Miss Stoekloy kept a good course and came home a winner by eight yards. Miss. Mealing did not complete the course. , The New Zealand swimmers’ ability was commented upon in terms of high praise during the Carnival.
