BAND CONTEST
FIRST TEST PIECE. By Telegraph—Press Assn., Copyright. CHRISTCHURCH. Feb. 21. With the A grade bands contesting the Dominion Championship, the Band Contest entered on its most important stage this evening. There Mas an audience of close on 4000, Mdiidi muis treated to some really great performances. Seven bands faced the judge. Mr K. Jackson. The bands appeared in the following order: Wbolston. Wellington Tramways. Christchurch Municipal. . .i. Kilda (Dunedin), Queen Alexandra's Own (Wanganui). Kaikorai ( Dunedin). Greymoutb. No points M’ere announced at the conclusion of the evening’s perlormances, but the judge announced tbc placing of the bands as iollows: Queen Alexandra’s Own (Wanganui), Woolston. Kaikorai, Groymouth Municipal. Wellington Tramways. Christchurch Municipal, St. Kilda. Tbc loading bands Mere very closely placed,, said the judge, and the championship was still anybody’s race.
'l’lie tenor trombone solo competition was decided this morning; 27 competed. Results:— W. L. Payne < Dannevirke -Municipal 90 points 1 ; Marshall (First Battalion. Southland) anil t . liarsly i Woolston) 89 equal.
