SO FATALLY PRETTY.

BERLIN, Dec. 24. The capable .shorthand-typist was fatally pretty and she wanted a fur coat. Her employer, a business man, felt that she really ought to have that coat, but, times being what they are, ho coidd not afford to buy one for her. So lie stepped round to one of those convenient establishments where they treat one like a friend and let one pay gradually for their attractive goods. He chose an electric seal cloak, £5 down and £ls on account, and, sly fellow, said that he would bring his wife round to see whether she liked it. He returned with the fatally pretty typist, who was enchanted with the coat, and he paid the £5 and entered into contract to meet the rest in instalments. “The gracious lady must sign too,” said the salesman. And the typist, who had been given the tip on the way to the shop, scribbled the name of her kind employers’ wife on that tiresome contract. A FRTOTITI'TL KKFECT. Times became worse and the business man could not. pay the second instalment. The linn then applied to his wife. The effect was frightful. Not only was the domestic peace <;i the hits!ness man changed to a state of war, but the proprietor of the fur shop also denounced his customers to the authorities as forgers. The fatally pretty typist, in tears, took back the electric seal coat to the shop and pleaded ior mercy, but she was told that the law was the law. And so she and her employer had to appear in a Berlin court. The business man was sent to prison for two months and the fatally pretty typist was fined £2 10s. The typist hurst into tears when she heard the sentence but her employer was unmoved. He probably preferred Christinas in prison to Christmas at home.
