CRICKET.
(By Telegraph—Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON V. AUSTRALIA. WELLINGTON, Feb. 18. That New Zealand cricket has not yet advanced sufficiently to enable a Dominion eleven to challenge seriously the full strength of Australia, was amply proved a ttlu. Basin Reserve to-day I when the Australian team, who' had scored 375 on Friday, dismissed Wellington for 200. The local men fared even more disastrously in the follow oil. Folev, Lowry, Iladcock and Lamason scored one run between them in the second iininings. Dempster and Lambert made a spirited stand, lint Grimmett dismissed them both and when stumps were drawn at 5.45, six wickets were down for 92 runs. Grimmett, Blackie, Oxenham and Morton produced howling of a superior brand to what Wellington batsmen are accustomed, and they were excellently supported by the brilliant wicket keeping of Oldfield. In the afternoon the attendance was between nine and ten thousand, and €5(50 was taken at the gates, against C 242 on Friday. AUSTRALIA—Ist Innings.
