The State Department may act to prevent tlie showing, of the British cinema picture “Dawn ” against wine, the Americans of German descent have 1 complained. Young, the member for Weyburn (Saskatchewan) calls for the repeal of section 43 of t-e Customs Act, which gives the -Minister of National Revenue power to place a fixed value for duty on imports of national products of the kind produced in Canada. This power is in addition to power contained in tlie anti-dumping clause to -which the Liberals do not object, but the power to place a fixed value they think lias the effect of artificial dumping. The Minister of Agriculture and the Department of Justice are of the opinion that it is not within the competence of the Minister of Revenue to apply the anti-dumping clause in classes where power is exercised to place fixed values on imported goods. US. NAVAL SCARE. WASHINGTON, Feb. IS. It is understood that the House of Representatives Naval Committee will reach an agreement within a few days on a five year programme of not more than fifteen ten thousand ton cruisers with authorisation for tlie construction of ten more cruisers at the President’s discretion when funds are available. The costs will l>o thus cut do win from 710 million dollars to 264 million dollars.
