EVERYBODYS PICTURES. “ HOTEL LAIPERIAL ” —TO-NIGHT. When Pola Negri's current Paramount starring production, “Hotel Imperial,” comes to the Princess Theatre to-night film fans will see a .1 war picture laid against a background never used before. Of all the war’s striking phases, one of the most dramatic, vet least known, was the Russian invasion of Hungary in 1915, which started with such sweeping success hit yuded as one of the worst military disasters ever met by an blinder. Against this background, l.ajos Him, one of Hungary's most noted playwrights and novelists, laid a drama which gives Pola Negri the greatest role she has had since going to America, if not the greatest of her entire career. The story is also unique as a film vehicle, in that it is first time a war drama has boon presented from the standpoint of the C entral Powers rather than that of ilm Allies. Him, who was a war correspondent with the Hungarian Army during the period of invasion, located his story in a hotel m Taruow. on the Hungarian side of the Itussian frontier, just at the time it was captured by the enemy. Miss Negri plays the part of an hotel clmmliermaul who is elevated to luxury by tile Russian general, becomes involved in a passionate intrigue, and makes .am heroic sacrifice for the sake of her Hungarian lover and country. The supporting cast includes .lames Hall, George Siegmanu. Otto Fries, Max Davidson, Nicholas .Soussanin. and Michael Vavitch. Mauritz Stiller, reputed ns Sweden's greatest, directed the picture, his first in America. Erich Pomincr, Europe’s well-known producer, supervised the film for Paramount. A topical and comedy also will he shown.
Patrons are reminded of the starting of a new serial next Friday, “ Strings of Steel,” starring ’William Desmond.
