A MADMAN'S ESCAPADE. (Received this dav at 8.30 a.m.) HOME, Feb. 13. Adiielle Polidoro, a mad doorkeeper, provided an astonishing curtain raiser, at the reopening of the famous Costanssi of House, where Del Afonte was appearing. A private audience had assembled and a safety curtain was majestically rising when a man of huge proportions was seen as | a Greek statue. After striking poses recalling classical statues, he started singing Verdi's “Donna .E Mobile.” At first the spectators were dumb with astonishment and then there were angry cries of “remove him.” Stage hands rushed on the stage, recognising Polidoro, but the naked man was a powerful athlete, antT resisted capture. He barricaded himself in a box where lie continued singing until police bound him, and wrapped him in blankets. Polidoro was recently dismissed for eccentric behaviour. He was conveyed to an asylum loudly protesting at his treatment, due to jealousy of operatic stars.
