There is unrestrained rejoicing :in the Liberal ranks over Lancaster's unexpected turnover Irom a lour thousand majority for Conservatism, to one ol SOU for Liberalism. In view ol the remarkable attack on All: Lloyd George by Lord Ashton, the town’s largest employer ol labour, who said Mr Lloyd George was a dangerous Ilian, disloyal to his party and country, and the wrecker of the great historical party, and a man whom his own political associates mistrusted, the vote is regarded as a vindication ol All Lloyd George .as a definite revival of Liberalism. and more so in view ol .Mr ldo\d George’s dramatic appearance at Lancaster to refine the attack. ~lr Lloyd George says it is a stunning victory. and will bnve a lnstoii(al effect on tho lutore polities ot England. It will reliearteu the Liberals ami give fresh heart t> win recruits, who otherwise might hate drifted to the Socialists. Tim " Daily Chronicle,” the Lloyd George journal, says it is a magnificent victory. Liberalism could not- ask lor higher encouragement. Labour’s official organ, the " Daily Herald,” deplores the Labour defeat, hut editorially says: "To Air Baldwin, once again, we have the happy privilege of conveying our thanks that Toryism is on the downward path. Lancaster is the thirty-eighth bveelection since the general election. The Conservatives have won 21. Labour 12. and tho Liberals Labour has gained six seats from tho C onservativos and one from the Liberals. flic Liberals have gained one Irom Labour ami two from the Conservatives, and the Conservatives one Irom tho Liberals.
