M A SEE Y AGIUC ULT UR A L COLLEGE. PALMERSTON -V, Feb. 7. The Council of the Massey Agricultural College met to-day. The Hon Mr Fo wlds was re-elected Chairman. Ten tenders were received for the dairy factory. These were fully considered and a resolution was passed which will he published after consultation with the Department.
The Registrar of Victoria University advised that his Council has amended the regulations for the Farmers’ Union scholarship so as to permit the scholarship being open to .students at the Massey College, and further no residential restrictions will l>e placed on candidates. Applications for the position of principal of the college wore received from Canada, G resit Britain, New iZcalnnd aiul Australia. After full consideration the Council appointed Professor Percn to the position.
military cadetship. WELLINGTON, Feb. 7
The Government lias advised that a limited number of cadetships to the Royal Military College at Sandhurst are available to young New Zealanders on the nomination of the GovernorGeneral.
These cadetship's are granted for the purpose of training officers for the British Regular Army anil applications will he considered from only those gentlemen who wish to make the Army their permanent profession in life.
Definite regulation' governing the ailmi-'H ii of candidates by nomination in colleges have been laid down by the Army Council and only those candidates who fulfil the-e conditions will he eligible for nomination. The cadetships are not, open to the sons of parents- whose connection with New Zealand is merely temporary or official.
Then the course of instruction lasts eighteen months and the next course begins on KeptemlOr Ist. Applications must be. in hv February loth. Candidates must he between eighteen and nineteen on July Ist. Parents have to pay the cost of Lin l passage to England, fees amounting to £l2o per annum, and personal expense.' during vara t ions.

AVatersiders engaged in loading the steamer Northumberland in the roadstead to-day complained that the food provided was not satisfactory, and came ashore at lunch hour. A V lion the time for resuming came, the men did not put in an appearance. There are at present no indications of what stand the men will lake when the time (•ernes for resumption of operations tomorrow morning. A JOINT STATEMENT. WELLINGTON, Feb. 7. A joint, statement was issued to-day by Ihe Wellington Trades and Labour Council, and the Alliance of Labour, rebiewing the question of unemployment in the Dominion, and urging the Government and local bodies to take
steps to organise adequate schemes t<> meet the difficulty, which it is alleged is still present, even at the busiest period of the yen r.
The statement says a. deputation was arranged from the Wellington Trades Council to meet the Government, hut the ro ii lie i I is si in awaiting the Government's pleasure to place before it the present, state of unemployment.
