Tn connection with charges against John Charles Cannon, of CiTicft of goods of the value of £-500, Henry Ralph Higham, who pleaded guilty to charges of receiving goods to tbe total value of £72 10s from Cannon, knowing them to have been dishonestly obtained, was to-day sentenced by the Magistrate to six months’

imprisonment. A brother of John Cannon, named Thomas James Cannon, who was described as an engineer, aged 20, pleaded guilty to stealing a gold watch and pencil valued at £5 10s and a gold watch, valued at £-5 10s.

Chief-Detective Ward said that accused helped himself to some of the property which his brother was banding over to Higham. “A bad feature of the case,” said the Cliief-Detective, “is that when bis brother w:as arrested. accused pretended to be astonished and dismayed.
