The bowling and fielding were excellent, and compelled the Africans to abandon their forcing policy. Staples’ leg theory also kept down runs. Catterall and Cameron indulged in stonewalling tactics, intent on wearying down the bowling. Later they scored freely and vigorously all round. The partnership produced 13) in ninety-three minutes for the filth wicket. Catterall hit two sixes and fourteen fours. The batsmen were completely on top and tired the bowling.
