SUMMER FLOWER SHOW

HIGHLY SUCCESSFUL EVENT. The Summer Flower Show organised by a. committee of Hibernian Society workers and others, held in the Soldiers’ Hall was well filled with exhibits and the bright colours of the flowers and the decorative classes made a bravo and impressive display. The exhibits were well staged and displayed, the Committee doing excellent work in that respect. Stalls for the sale of flowers, fruit and vegetables, as well as sweets and cookery, were also erected, and did good business all day and night. r i he various classes filled very well, and

competition was very good in some instances. There were several outside exhibitors and their exhibits were mostly of marked excellence. The floral display was certainly a very attractive one from every point of view. The t vegetables shown, were a credit to the | growers, the giant products being pres- | ent in several classes. The collections of vegetables were well varied and piodueed good competition. In the cookery section there was very good competition. and the. exhibitors received special praise from the judges. the judging was carried out by the ladies and gentlemen in good time. Ihe judges were:- —Cut Flowers. Rot Plants and Vegetables. Air J. J . Hreeze ; Decorative Exhibits. ATiss F. Thompson and Airs R. Paterson ; Cookery, Mr A. Spence. In addition to the prize list published below. Miss Keating won tile rose bowl I'm- the most points in the show, anil Mrs P. J. Howard the special prize for the most points in cooking. A very attractive exhibit was that brought from AYestport by Mr G. Head, Alnster of the Old People’s Home, who displayed a line range of gladioli, which made a striking show in themselves.

The Committee and all assisting, including those in charge of the refreshment room, all worked well. There was a considerable attendance at the afternoon session when the Mayor (M.r G. A. Perry) ollicially opened the Show, being supported bv the Deputy-Alayor (Air AY. Jeffries). Roth gentlemen spoke in praise ol the excellence of the display and congratulated all connected with the Show, which was

regarded as the forerunner (>i simian summer shows to follow in subsequent years. The following are the awards: —• SECTION A.—CUT FLOWERS.
