(Australian Press Association A- Sun.) SHEFFIELD SHIELD. BRISBANE, Feb. 4.

The Sheffield Shield match, \ iotoria v. Queensland has commenced. Victoria made 8 for 203 (Ponsiord 03. Hendry 32, Ryder 84, Scaife 39). The weather was fine and the wicket good. Woodfull was unable to play owing to an injured knee. Ihe hatting was very slow against good howling and keen fielding, hut as it progressed the batsmen livened. Ryder gave the best exhibition of the day, scoring all round the wicket at a last rate. A feature of the partnership of Ponsford and Ryder was the running between the wickets, which was tho best seen for Kune time.
