THE SEX NOVEL.

DEMAND DECLTNIG IN AUSTRALIA SYDNEY. January 20. According to Sydney booksellers, there is a distinct decline in the demand for sex novels which was all the vogue two or three years ago. It is only “dappers” wlm ask for it now. The general demand is for the historical novel. Here are some representative opinions: Angus and Robertson : “ The demand for tile sox novel has gone. Wo sold a lot of ‘Simon and Peter’ and ‘Flaming Youth,' but readers have tired of that kind of stuff. Australian readers today want clean stuff with a love interest.” Dyoek’s: There is practically no demand f r sex novel to-day. The best seller is the historical novel—such I rooks as those of Snbatini and V ron —with the mystery or detective story well up in the list, and then th<‘ humrous writing of such men as Modehouse and Leacock.”

The reaction seems complete, and is tc he welcomed.
