EVERYBODYS PICTURES. • ‘ UPSTJMiA M’' TO-Xl GUT. Humor as the logical result oF story and characterization, is a Feature in 3'o:< Fil ms “Upstream,’ ’ which has its first presentation at the Princess Theatre to-night. This is a .John Ford Picturti and when it is remembered that it is the same Ford who made “'The Iron Horse” and “Three Had Men.” the unusually fine entertainment value oF “Upstream” is easily understood. In addition the story is of compelling human interest. Then, too. the cast of screen and stage celebrities who play the principal roles do ho with great understanding and broad sympathy For they interpret a life, with which they must all he on very intimate terms. For the. story of “Upstream” is' that of a group of actors and their humble hoarding house in New York. They strive, first to achieve a foothold in their profession, and then with their daily bread assured, they struggle for the heights of fame. Nancy Nash is the irrepressible and lovable Gertie Hyatt, whose winning smile holds one enthralled front the very iirsft scene in which she appears. iKarle Foxe, also is seen in an altogether new role* and shows ih ; s young, man as something a great deal more than a comedian. Then, Giant Withers and Raymond Hitchcock each in a part admirably suited to their fine talenits. and that inimitable team of fun makers. Tod .McNamara and Sammy. Cohen. fresh from their triumphs in “What Price Glory,” are also east. John Ford is again to .lie congratulated on his fine direction. This shows the great director of epic films in a lighter and even in a happier vein. For there is a great deal of humour and hilarious comedy in this production to balance the poignant scenes. Do not fail to see this altogether delightful opus. A Fox News, Scenic and a good Comedy will also be shown to-night.
