DESERT VALLEY ” TO-NIGHT
Silver, the dapple grey horse that appears with Ruck Jones in “ Desert Valley,” Fox Films production, miglit have spent all of his day on a ranch and never known the experience ol performing before motion picture cameras had his color been other than grey, four years ago. Ruck decided to buy a horse. He did not make tours ol inspection through famous stables to make his selection nor did he frequent the nation’s race tracks, with an eye scanning the thoroughbreds awaiting the snap of the starter’s tape. Ruck wanted a cow horse—with intelligence. He saw a dapple grey horse on a ranch one day, a young mischievious horse that had only recently been broken in. Ruck was instantly impressed. He always had preferred dapple grey horses and here was a line, young specimen, full of strength and with an unmistakable air of intelligence. All he knew then was to manage cattle under the reign of a competent cowboy. Rut Ruck was satisfied. TTe bought the horse and named him Silver. Ruck and Silver almost immediately became pals. Ruck understood horses, and this particular horse ol all. and Silver in turn was not long in learning to understand his master. In many of the twenty-five pictures that Ruck has produced for Eox Films, Silver has appeared in important rotes. In “ Desert Valley,” he does some excellent acting. "While on location with Ruck at Rod Rock Canyon in the Mojave desert, making exterior sequences, Silver thoroughly enjoyed the change of atmosphere and went about his business for the camera as if he were having a great lark. In many scenes, Silver was required to perform without a rider and it was seldom that any of these scenes had to be rehearsed more than once in order that he might learn what was expected of him. ‘‘ Desert Valley ” is an absorbing romance of the "West. An engaging plot keeps interest sustained throughout. All excellent cast includes Virginia Rrown Fa ire, feminine lead, J. AY. Johnston. -Malcolm "Waite, Charles Rrinley and Eugene Pallette. Scott R. Dunlap directed.
