TENNIS TESTS. N.Z. OUTCLASSED. (By Telegraph—Per Press Association.) W ELLINGTON. Jan. 19. The tennis tests between France and N.Z. were concluded to-day. N.Z. not winning a match, or even a set. The Frenchmen played much better than on Wednesday. Bartleet played strongly against Bruguon. hut was quite outclassed by the Frenchman’s agility in covering the court and his splendid net play and smashing. Bartleet was sent careering about the court, and tired towards the end. Bruguon could not ho passed at the net, even by lobs. .He made scarcely a mistake. Bartleet made some winning cross-court shots, but they were all too few, and lie negatived those by failing on easy balls. Borotrn played much better against Ollivier than lie had done against Bartleet. He did not make so many vollev- ; ing and smashing mistakes. He was all energy, taking the net at every opportunity. and giving Ollivier, who played as well only as he was allowed, no chance. Borotra’s smashing from all over the court was magnificent. His hounding along the net. from one side to another, was amazing. He drove to tlie corners with great regularity and accuracy, making Ollivier travel. Ollivier never looked dangerous, and Boritra was always dangerous. In the doubles. Borotrn and Sturt were the outstanding figures. Boussus and Knott making far too many m stakes. Boussus netted low volleys all too regularly. Knott- had brilliant patches of severe cross-court driving on the forehand, and smashing when Sturt made tlie opening, hut he failed always at critical times. Sturt played a steady game, but Borotrn was always bouncing himself in front of drives and smashes, or leaping for lobs, and generally bringing off winners. Bossuus got some winning cross-court backhand drives. Sturt and Knott led 5-3 in the second set, and were set point at 5-4. They were quite outclassed in the last set.
