The buyer of a big Leeds firm said be had not known the trade so prosperous in his JO years’ experience. In women’s stockings in recent years British artificial silk had almost entirely displaced foreign silk hose. Women’s underwear departments in tin’s country did not buy more than 5 per cent, ol foreign goods. British purchases of foreign goods during the past 10 years had declined year hv year. In 1013 foreign purchases amounted to approximately 50 per cent. In 1025 they amounted to 15 per cent., and to-day thev did not exceed 10 nor cent.

BRITISH COAL. NEW MARKETING SCHEME. RUGBY. Jan. 10. A full meeting of representatives of the South and West 4 orkshire, Nottinghamshire. and Derbyshire Coal Owners' Associations was held in Sheffield yesterday ior tho further consideration of the coal marketing scheme which the coal-owners propose to put into force. After the meeting it was announced that a scheme was being formally constituted. Already other districts are making approaches for admission to the scheme.’ There is a prospect that eventually the whole of tho Midland coal-field.' including Lancashire, will be included within it. It is stated that an important development may therefore be expected in the near future.
