AMUSEMENTS.

EVERYBODYS PICTURES,

“BUTTERFLIES IX THE RAIN” FRIDAY.

Laura La Plante, who co-stars with James Kirkwood in “Butterflies ill the Rain,” which will have its local premier at the Princess Theatre on Friday, was the innocent victim of an equine joke during the making of the picture. Eduard Sloman, director, hud secured horses trained for taking hurdles, and Miss La Plante had to leap the horse over a wall in one seene. Although a good amateur horsewoman she did not feel capable of sticking on the horse and asked Sloman to fake the jump. With a smile the director agreed, cautioning the star to bring her horse right up to the wall before stopping him. Miss La Plante showed her famous dimples in pleasure and prepared for the scene. While the cameras were grinding she brought the horse right up to tho wall. But the horse, with all his experience didn’t know any hotter than to keep right on going. With, the leap of a Pegasus lie cleared the wall and went on. Miss La Plante shrieked and held on. “Wow! I was frightened,” she said. Then looking Sloman in tho eye, “I believe you knew that would happen.” A good supporting programme will also bo presented including “Fighting With Buffalo Bill” (serial) and a good comedy.
