He bail just time to arouse his wife and two children. All escaped in their night attire. The house was insured for €OOO. MAN KILLED. AUCKLAND, Jan. 17. Aii unknown man was killed on the railway line at Mount Eden early this morning. He was walking along the rails when overtaken by a train hound tor the city at a crossing opposite a gate and the engine was on top of him when he was seen by the driver. The infant child of Major Bremiior of the Defence Department who is under transfer from llawern to Christchurch died on the train shortly after being taken off at Waverley yesterday. On Sunday night the girl who was 17,V months old. had eaten portion of a meta burning tablet. A doctor was called who said there was nothing poisonous in the tablets and that if the child had abdominal pains to give her oil and milk. 'I he child cried and vomited during the night. The Doctor was again called in the morning mid washed out the child s stomach. He said she would he all right to travel, but on the tram developed Convulsions and died at a |)„, tor’s room a I Waverley. Coroner Barton said there had been at least two similar eases in recent years involving various kinds of naphthaline tablets. Children after treatment appear to get all right and then became suddenly ill and die. He was anxious to see whether some remedy could not lie found. The inquiry was adjourned for a week.

MISSING CHILD FOUND. TAUMARUXUr, Jan. 17. Ellis Gray, the six year old child who was missing from Maiignpeehi, was located yesterday at Kopaki six miles from home, none the worse for her experience.

INQUEST VERDICT.

WELLINGTON, Jan. 17

An inquest into the circumstances surrounding the death ol the unidentified male infant whose body was found in the harbour on Sunday morning was held before Coroner Riddell. S..\l. Dr Wright was of opinion that the child had breathed once. The string was hung loosely round the waist and neck of the child, hut there were no marks of external violence. The Coroner remarked that it was impossible to say whether suffocation took place in Wellington or elsewhere. His finding was that deceased was found in Wellington Harbour on January 15th, the cause of death being suffocation from an unknown cause, oil or about November 15th, 1927.
