A LONDON TRIAL. (Australian Press Association & Sun.) (Received this day at 12.25 n.m.l LONDON, Jan. Ui. The Attorney-General prosecuted at the Oil Bailey trial of McCartney and Hausen (cabled on December 3rd). He said McCartney was an Englishman in Russia’s pay in March to November 1027. Russia was responsible for instigating this conspiracy. Hansen, a German student, was McCartney’s superior. If what Hansen told Monkland was true, Hansen was Russia’s super spy. Monklund, cross-examined, admitted he knew McCartney for three years. He also was aware that McCartney had been in prison. FURNACE DISASTER. BERLIN. Jan. Id. A blast furnace at Voelkingen works exploded. Molton metal caught the workmen, cutting off their escape. Two bodies were recovered. Sixteen were seriously injured, while several are missing.
