A BIG FIGHT.
OIL INTERESTS AT AVAR. ♦Australian &. N.Z. Cable Association.) NEW YORK, Jan. 16. The Standard Oil Company has made a reply to Deterding stating that neither American nor British Governments forbid trade with the Soviet and that the long distance lietween the United Sates and India, made the purchase of Russian oil for Indian markets more economical. Also that the subsidiaries of the Royal Dutch and Shell Conipanvs, as late as 1925. purchased considerable Russian oil, and that the importation of Russian oil constitutes no menace to the Indian or Burma oil industry.
Price cutting and secret rebates instituted hv the Royal Dutch Shell Coy. in India will cost the Royal Dutch Shell and Burma Companies approximately 2,750.000 dollars here and the Standard Oil €ov., of New York, approximately four millions, but the latter will not lie swerved from its policy by such desperate destructive measures n.s are being followed in India. and are being threatened in other parts of the world.
