William Wilcox, aged 17, 'tripped while stopping a horse, and a milk cart passed over his thigh, causing fatal injuries. MOTOR COLLISION. Hamilton, Jan. o. A serious accident occurred at Gor(lonton Road at 7.30 a.in. to-day, when in a. fog, a collision occurred between a car driven by L. Sweeney, of Hamilton, and another driven by Dr Bernstein. of Morrinsville. Miss Gower, of Oordonton, a passenger in Sweeney’s car. was hurled through the windscreen, suffering cuts on the throat and severe shock. She is rc|iorted to he in a very serious condition. At. 0.2.3 p.m. on Saturday flic Petone police received word that a motorist evidently in a drunken condition, had narrowly avoided a collision oil the Mntt road. At the inquest concerning the death ol Stella Knight, aged fourteen, who was drowned in the surf at Lyall Bay last Friday, the evidence showed that the mother and four children went to .spend the day at the beach .Stella and a young brother entered the wafer at a spot marked ns dangerous hv warning hoards, which are two feet by eighteen inches in size, the warning being printed in large letters. There was a very strong undertow, one of the rescuers stating that it was impossible for him to stand up in a depth of five feet. When the hoy was being brought out. he said that his sister was also bathing. She was brought hack bv a number dT people, including members of the Life Saving (Tub. hut despite three-quarters of an hour’s efforts at resuscitation, the case was hopeless. Ohildren were not always observant, hut parents and others should take warning from the fatality. He found a verdict of accidental drowning.
