WESTLAND COUNTY COUNCIL

TUESDAY, JANUARY 10th. OVERSEER AII LEXER’S REPORT. I have the honour to report upon the progress of work during the month of December. CENTRAL RIDING. Station Road.—The Contractors for this work have made excellent progress having completed the clearing and formation and are now engaged on the metalling. The completed work has been finished in a creditable manner. Duck Creek Bridge and approaches. —This work was completed early in tho month under the direction of Bridge Foreman H. Reynolds. The new structure, constructed with hardwood piles, silver pine caps and corbels. inner heart of rimit decking, and railing, is a neater and more serviceable design than tlie old bridge and suitable for toil to twelve ton loads.

Lake Kanieri Road Widening.— This work was continued by day labour and the clearing, formation and a portion of the metalling completed: very heavy boulders acre encountered over a distance of six chains, explosives being required for their removal. MAINTENANCE.

Sunny Bight Road was cleared of scrub, fallen timber, etc., for twenty chains in length and eighteen' inch diameter pipes culvert constructed at a soft open crossing that prevented wheel traffic from using the road beyond Renton’s boat shed. A turn-out was metalled, and a parking place provided for motor ears eighteen chains beyond the pipe culvert.

Dorothy Falls road was cleared of encroaching fern, scrub, etc., and the narrow portion of roadway at the Lake edge repaired with fine gravel and a turn-out and turning place constructed for motor ears near Dr Teiehelinaiui’s cottage.

Lake Kanieri Road was repaired with gravel between Slip Hilt and the bake, Roadman Olderog attending to clearing watertablcs and general repairs between Ward Road and Crayfish Creole Bridge. Urgent repairs were effected hut not completed throughout to Lower Kokatahi, McArthur, Ci'opp’s and Hokitika ]' lat Roads. NORTHERN RIDING. Repairs limited to an expenditure of £~> were effected to had holes on the old Christchurch Road and a defective box culvert on Spencer Road removed and replaced with I‘2-inch diameter concrete pipes. SOUTHERN RIDING. Docherty Road.—The Contractors have signed for this work and have completed several chains of formation and metalling in a satisfactory manner. Petersen Road Extension. —The Contractors have completed fifteen chains of clearing and surface formation, also the removal of debris and timber from the bed and banks of Mall Creek. MAINTENANCE. Roadman Whitisldo attended to repairs to La. Fontaine and Petersen Roads, ancl to the construction of a small pipe culvert and approach to H. Kidd's Tesidienofe ,'ait ,Hfari I h,arfj. Rfe} pairs were effected hv casual labour to Dolour arid AVataroa 1-lat Roads.
