Following the discovery of Mrs folene Mary Sampson, lying on the road outside her homo at Mitcham, suffering from severe injuries from which she later died, the jHilice established that it was a ease of murder, for which lobhery was probably the motive, as a wallet containing £29 which she was known to have in her possession was missing. The police arrested Ernest Klcinhert, an orchard labourer, aged twenty, and charged him with murder. WHEAT YIELD. SYDNEY, Jan. 10. The latest official returns show that the wheat harvesting is largely completed and gathered mostly under fav-
ourable conditions. The yield on the whole is better than anticipated.
FRAUDULENT SCRIPT. SYDNEY, Jan. 10. The Chairman of the Stock Exchange issued a warning that several eases of fraudulent alterations in share certificates in the tin and the rubber companies are reported from the East. The alterations have been made by persons who obtained possession of certificates for a small mini her of .shares, using chemicals to erase the number of shares mentioned and substitute a, larger number. It is believed over £50.000 was lost in the Federated Malay States by persons purchasing bogus certificates.
