CINDERELLA AS A BANDIT. NEW YORK, Nov. 1. Twelve bandits in fancy dress under the command of a beautiful blonde girl, dressed as Cinderella, participated last night in a Hallowe’en masquerade ball given at Harmony Inn. a suburban resort in the vicinity of Chicago. ( Eight of them quietly took seats in the ball-room and mingled with the guests, while four, armed with sawnoff shotguns, stationed themselves immediately outside the door. A feature of the evening, an Apache dance, had just -begun when the Cinderella girl, throwing off her mask, began kissing her partner. The kiss was a pre-ar-ranged signal. One of the bandits fired a shot into the ceiling, and, with his confederates, orderd more than 100 dancers to line up against the wall. Two of the bandit then stripped the men of their purses and watches, while Cinderella divested the women of their jewels. At this moment a policepian. who had received permission from iiis chief to attend the •ill reached the grounds outside on his cycle. Two of the bandit guards shot him. The bandits, with £3.000 in money and jewels, then fled ‘n two motor-cars. A RED PLOT. CONSTANTINOPLE. Nov. 20. A Communist plot was discovered here last night, and 18 arrests have been made in the city and others in the provines. The connection between the local committee and the central .Communist organisation in Russia I’os been definitely established, the local .leaders being educated Turks employed hv Arcos, the Russian Bank, and the Russian Steam Navigation Company. Two of the leaders had been specially trained in Russia. Propaganda had been confined almost entirely to Turkish factory hands, artisans, and labourers. ENTOMBED MAN COES MAD. JOHANNESBURG, Nov. 20. One European and six natives are still entombed in the Crown Alines, where last Wednesday a falling rock cut off 14 men. One native was saved after* 02 hours. He had a broken arm, had had no'food or water, and had been lying beside a corpse. He was demented when found, hut has now * recovered. Rescue efforts are contipfljpg amid great risks.
