CANTERBURY DEE BATED. WELLINGTON, Jan 7 3. Canterbury made 251 ami 261, Wellington 405 and 110 for live wickets. Canterbury’s uphill fight in tho Plunkot Shield match with Wellington at the Basin Reserve was concluded to-day. Wellington won by five wickets. Since yesterday there had been a marked change in the weather, a keen southerly, giving the conditions an unpleasant touch for the third day’s play. Rain early this morning had hut. little effect upon the ground and the wicket, which were still in good order. The position for the resumption of play was that Canterbury in their second innings had three wickets in hand with an aggregate score which exceeded Wellington’s first Innings total by only 54 runs. This credit balance was almost doubled before the innings terminated to-day, the tail end batsmen holding out quite well. Wellington were left with 108 runs for a win, and this looked easy for the home team. Matters, however, took a sensational turn when Dempster was caught off the second ball of the innngs, and again when Lowry was dismissed with the total at S. It was a had start for Wellington. The runs were then knocked off with the loss of two more wickets.
