EVERYBODYS’ PiCTURES •‘FOOLS IN THE DARK” TO-NIGHT Percy Schwartz, only soil of a millionaire ash can manufacturer of Los Angeles, cannot bring himself to voice any enthusiasm for his father’s trade, so they part, amicably, Percy to engage in the task of writing thrillers for the screen. In direct antithesis to the heroes of his blood-curdling scenarios is Percy, lip. is highly nervous and of rather .-esthetic build, wears horn-rim-med glasses, eats chocolates vociferously and everything. His first accepted scenario contains such hair-raising and blood-thirsty incidents that tfie director and everyone else around the studio marvel that so delicate a creature as Percy could even have summed them. .Percy has a valet, Diploma, a queer, humorous old darky, who has permanently attached himself to our hero because of the hitter’s ingenuity at solving a certain three-ring puzzle which is the bain of the old darky’s life. And Diploma sticks to Percy constantly through all the vicissitudes "'lnch confront the latter when the uncle starts his campaign to prove Percy’s valor.
A good supporting programme will also he shown.
FRED. SMITH’S MARIMBA BAND AND DANCE ORCHESTRA. The above Hand now in South AVosthunl is having a very successful tour. Last night this bright orchestral party was at Alataimii, and to-night will be at Harihari. On Thursday night the Hand perform at Ross and on Friday at Kumarn. Next Saturday night at the Soldiers’ Hall the Hand will tender a benefit dance to the Ladies’ Hockey Club now raising funds for a Canterbury tour next season. A full programme will be given, similar to that of last Saturday night, and a bumper attendance is expected.
Next week the Tlynd will be in this district for three nights. On Monday next at A\ oodstock ; on Tuesday a. long night at Hokitika j and this night week at Kanicri. The visit to the various country towns is being enjoyed greatly, the public being very pleased to bear so excellent a danee band. After touring tbe district the Hand will visit Grevmoiith and district.
