ATHLETICS.
BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSN., COPYRIGHT. KESKINEN’S STAY IN N.Z. WELLINGTON, Dec. 29. Sutherland, who had a sudden attack of illness on Wednesday, and struggled on gamely to-day, found the effort too much for him ill the 1500 metres, and Keskinen won by over a minute. Keskinen’s performance betters the 6300 points scored hv M. W. Kroger (Victoria), in winning the decathlon at Brisbane last year, and is a much better effort in that it was made under infinitely worse conditions. The field in the decathlon was reduced again by the fact that Hunt (N.S.AV.: had to leave for Wanganui in the morning, and A. Walker (N.S7W.) withdrew.
E. Keskinen, the all-round athlete representing Queensland at the Australian and New Zealand Championships. has decided to remain in the Dominion for some time. His intention is to gain experience of hiitiormnking in New Zealand before returning to his native country, Finland, where lie is a butter factory manager. He is leaving to-night on a brief visit to the South Island, and will compete at the athletic meeting at Dunedin vui 7th. January.
