(By Telegraph—Per Press Association. TWO FIRES. DABGAVJLI.K, Dee. 28. A lire early yesterday morning totally destroyed a new seven-roomed residence owned 'and occupied by P. Wordsworth, West Coast Road, Aratapu. Practically nothing was saved. The insurances are: House fioOO, lurniturc eIPO, well under the extent of the loss. Later in the morning a shack at Alaugawfiinre, occupied by an old man by tlie name of Solomon, was also totally destroyed by lire. Nothing was sa veil.
ROTORUA’S TRAFFIC . ROTORUA, Dec. 28. Glorious weather prevailed throughout the week-end. One hundred and sixty cars are in the motor camp. The trnllic is enormous. .MOTOR- ACCIDENTS. ROTORUA. Dec. 28. A motor cyclist. Patrick Fernie, sustained a broken leg in a collision with a car, and another motor cyclist, Chris. Anderson, was struck by a projecting benzine ease on passing on the main highway, and sustained also a broken leg. Two motor cars collided on 'luupn Hoad. One ear was badly smashed, hut the occupants were not seriously hurt.
INQUEST VERDICT. GISBORNE, Dee. 28. At the inquest on the death ol the Maori boy, Georgo Pikirangi, killed on the Tearai Bridge. Alaimwatu, the Coroner found death was due toil fractured base of the skull as the result of deceased’s horse becoming frightened and slicing at a passing motor lorry. A MEDICAL REVIEW. TIIE YEAR’S RESEARCH WORK. AUCKLAND. Dec. 27. WOOLSI I El) DESTROYED. OAAI.AHU. Dee. 27. Flames were observed at midnight lasi nigh! issuing from a woolslied. tile property of Air .lames Pringle, at Ka.iiru Mill. It was not possible to cope with the outbreak, and the building was completely destroyed. Shearing operations were in progress and seventy ewes left in the shed perished in tlu> flames. Tho shell and the eontents were insured for Cot), but the insurance on the wool is not available, but it is estimated that Air Pringle’s loss is UdOO.
HOUSE DESTROYED. lIA All ETON, Dee. 27. A fire occurred at 2 a.in. to-day in n five-roomed bungalow at Alelville, owned by .Tames Tliorburn and occupied by K. O'Kane. The house and furniture were destroyed. The insurances are not available. LEG FRACTURED. HAAIILTOX, Dec. 27. As the result of a fall from a motorcycle in collision with a car near Huntly vesterdav afternoon, a youth, Lionel Hopwood. of Shelly Beach Road, .sustained a Iriicture of bis right leg. He was admitted to the Waikato Hospital. STEWART ISLAND TRAGEDY. INVERCARGILL. Dec. 28.
At tFlo inquest on Arthur Valentine, who died suddenly at the Borstal Institute, where lie was awaiting a magisterial hearing on a charge of murder. Dr Crawford said that deceased had manifested symptoms which resulted in witness recommending his early transfer to Seaelilf .Mental Hospital for observation. Both heart and kidneys were greatly enlarged. Death was caused by progressive clotting of tho blood in the heart, causing cardiac syncope. A verdict was returned accordingly.

I be child hid under the fringe of an overhanging maeroearpa hedge when the mower, drawn by a horse, swept underneath causing the terrible accident. The child is reported to be progressing well at the Alatamata Hospital. BODY FOUND. THAAIES, Dee. 28. The body of Fanny C'oldicutt, married daughter of F. AYoods, Thames, was found on tbe foreshore this morning. Deceased left home last night. A search failed to reveal her whereabouts till some children playing on the foreshore discovered her body. Deceased bad been in a tlepres.se] state lately.
SERIOUS CHARGES. DUNEDIN, Dec. 2.?
Alary Jane Clark was charged at the Police Court with having committed an unlawful act, thereby causing tbe death of a young woman ; also with using an instrument on a girl. She was remanded for a week.
RREACH OF GAMING ACT. AUCKLAND, Dec. 28. Detectives arrested an Auckland resident to-dav, on a charge of using his premises as a common gaming house. This afternoon, Robert Ryan, ot /Queen Street, appeared in the Police Court to answer a charge of using his premises in Queen Street as a common gaming house. A remand was granted, bail being
fixed at £IOO.
