(Australian & N.Z. Cable Association.) FAMOUS DANCER KILLED. BERLIN, Dec. 27.
Frauiein Lucie Kiesselhausen, the famous Viennese dancer, was killed in a shocking geyser accident. While water was beating lor a bail), the dancer decided to clean her gloves, and was pouring out some benzine when a violent explosion occurred. The actress was immediately wrapped in a sheet ol flame, while the geyser poured out steam and boiling water. The dancers screams brought her mother, but the force of the explosion had jammed the door, and it was some time before an entrance was gained. Lucie’s arms and legs were terribly injured, and her hair burned off, only her face, including eyebrows and eyelashes, remaining uninjured. She died in hospital.
FORGED NOTES AFTERMATH. RERUN, Dec. 2s. The “Daily Mail’s” Berlin correspondent reports Doctor Geiss, ex-bar-rister. for Christmas purchases at Munich, tendered a hundred-mark note which the manager recognised as false. Geiss said it was not false. The police were called and Initial forged notes of a value of £llO sterling on Geiss, who declined to say how he came into possession of them, and he was arrested. A warder bringing breakfast to bis cell on ’Xmas morning found Geiss dead as the result of poisoning. A charwoman employed entered Geiss’ silent home and found a canary in a cage, two dogs in the kitchen ami a kitten in tlie sitting room all dead, the wife and two daughters unconscious in bed. Ibe wife and younger daughter died in hospital. Frau Geiss left a letter saying she could not live after the disgrace that bad fallen on the family, and intended to suicide by poisoning. It is believed that the doctor did not forge the notes. 'Hie police are investigating how ho came into possession of them.
HOPE.ABANDONED. NEW YORK, Dee. 27
Hope is virtually abandoned for “The Dawn.” Every portion of the route from New York to Harbour Grace lias been thoroughly searched. Severe storms along the route render the possibility of the plane floating for more than a short time must be doubtful. The aeroplane lios Nagales, has returned to its hangar, ending the search.
