MID-SUMMER MEETING. EIEST DAY’S RESULTS. The Westland Racing Club’s Summer meeting took place on Monday in perfect weather conditions. The course

was in capital order and fast, though there was a certain amount of dust about, mainly from tho trotting track. There were splendid fields throughout and the racing was excellent. 'I he starting of Mr 11. Hatch was ol a high class and he got the fields away in capital style. Investments on the totalise tor showed a tailing oil ot £1319 and the gate receipts also were less by £ll than the opening day last year. The various officials were at their posts and the whole programme passed off without a hitch. The racing opened with a held of thirteen, and the result gave a very substantial dividend, easily the best of the meeting. There were seven races as against eight at last years meeting and this had a. result in the lowering nf the amount put through the totalisator.

From a perfect start Attract led the field to (he back whore Donne took charge from Rina Arango, who came fast to the post to win by a neck, easing up, from Donne, with St. Nicholas half a length away. At the hack the horses closed up Caliburn getting up to the leaders, hut Arrowmir had the strength of the field and won by 1 ‘ lengths. Some Abbey being beaten for second place hv half a length. THE MEETING CONCLUDED. SECOND DAY RESULTS. Fine weather again prevailed yesterday when the second day of the AVestland Racing Club’s meeting took place. The attendance was somewhat disappointing, being considerably less than t'lmt of the first day. in spite of a holiday being generally observed. The fields also were smaller, hut the racing was very keenly contested. Speculation also showed a drop. The figures for the meeting were—First day £8179, second day £7222 10s, a total of £15.401, ns against £9498 and of £15,401 10s, as against C 9498 and showing a decrease of £2131 10s for the meeting.

The meeting passed off with remarkable smoothness, the Club’s officials having everything in capital order ns usual and all were very attentive to their duties. At the totah’sator house Mr IT. Lynch and his staff worked very smoothly and handled all the investments offering with despatch. The work of the starter, Mr P. Hatch, was again very successful, the fields on both days being let away in fine style, that won approval and gave satisfaction to the general public. The Municipal Hand was present on both days and a choice musical programme was rendered. Everything went smoothly indeed though the smaller attendance j will militate to some extant on the fin- 1

Scrambler took the lead entering the straight to win easily by three lengths, there being a good finish for second place, Rronstell heating Saxette by half a. length with Caliburn fourth. Tote £8361.
