the Jazz Club holds one ot its popular dances at the Soldiers’ Hall tonight, dancing commencing at 9.30 o clock, lickets will be obtainable at the door. A Westport resident, Air Bohert Brown, died suddenly on Sunday at his residence. Deceased, who was 55 years of age. had been ill for some little time. 'Fen days ago he collapsed while at his work at Tekuliu. and lie was admitted to the Buller Hospital. He had just come out of the institution before his death.

The death look place on Alonday alternoon at his residence, Preston Road, of Captain AYilliai.i McPherson, one of the best known residents of (Ireymouth, and one of the oldest identities of the local waterfront. He had been ailing for about throe months, lie was horn over seventyseven years ago at Portsoy, Banlfshire, Scotland. In 1883 the deceased was appointed Deputy Harbourmaster, which position lie occupied until his death, a period of 43 years. During this long term he had several times acted ns 11 arhoiirmastcr for considerable periods. The late Captain Ale-phor-on was very interested in yachting, and always kept a good boat himself, which he proudly sailed at all regalias. He was a member of the .Manchester Unity Oddfellows for 41 years, having joined the local I.odge in 1883. J iis wife predeceased him, having died in Grevnnnitli in 1920. He leaves one son (William) and two daughters (Airs J. W. Brown and Miss AlcPherson). all of Greymouth. also one brother, Air ('has. McPherson, of Herbert Street, Greymouth.
