(By Telegraph—Per Press Association.) \RCIIBISHOP’S lIEQ.UEST. SYDNEY - , Dec. 28. The Coadjutor Archbishop of Sydney, Bishops, of Armidablo, Grafton. Huorna. and Bathurst, in a joint letter to Mr Bavin calling attention to Ike moral material welfare of the citizens of the State through the excessive inducement to, and participation in betting and gambling, nnd adds that the> are"convinced That a. license for betting on mechanical hare racing is calculated greatly to extend the range and increase the appetite for betting, specially among women and children. The State therefore is threatened with a most serious social peril. The immediate and ultimate consequences are so great that they pray the Government to prohibit betting in connection with these electrical devices.
- COMING FLY. /Melbourne., Dec. 28. Though the strictest secrecy is being observed in regard to the flight there are indications that MoncriefF and Knight may leave Point Cook, where their machine, a Ryan monoplane, has been assembled, for Sydney to-morrow and that there is a likelihood of their hopping off from Sydney to New Zealand without fuss or ceremony at the week-end. SYDNEY CIVIC COMMISSION. SYDNEY, Dec 26. Mr E. P. Fleming, a member of the Federal Migration and Development ’Commission, has been appointed chairman of the Sydney Civic Commission, which replaces the Sydney City Council.
