ADOINCTON STOCK SALES. fat cattle and sheep firm. CHRISTCHURCH, Dec. 22. Fat lambs sold well at the double market at Addington yesterday, the ruling price being lOd per lb. for the first two grades, with heavier lambs a penny less. The yarding was more than twice as large as last week, and butchers bought practically the whole offering, owing to values being above export schedule rates. The fat sheep sale started at a figure above last week, but fell back to the former level later on. It was the same with the tat cattle sale, opening prices being -Os above recent rates. In both sections the entry was small for a double market. Store wethers, which comprised the bulk of the entry in store sheep, sold well up to late rates, but bacon pigs receded in price. Porkers were in better demand.
Fat cattle-—The beef sale opened with prices showing a rise of up to 20s a head on last week, hut receded to last week’s values towards the end. Extra prime heel' made to 41s Gd per 1001 b.. prime medium weight 37s to !()s. medium quality 34s to 3Gs Gd, heavy-weight .'i-'ls to 3Gs. medium tow beef 29s to 325, and rough sorts down to 25s per I(X)H). heavy steers £ls to £lB, mediumweight steers £l3 to £ls ss, light steers £8 to £l2, extra prime heifers to £ls 7s Gd. prime heifers £ll. to £l3, medium heifers £8 10s to £lO 15s, light heifers £G 10s to £8 ss. extra prime cows to £ls 2s Gd. prime cows £lO to Cl2 15s, medium cows £7 10s to £9 15s, light cows £-1 10s to £7. Store cattle—There were few buyers present tit the sale of store cattle, for which there was a small entry. Values were: Best cows £3 lOs to £1 -Is, others 30s to 50s. heifers £3 5s to £1 3s Gd. hulls £4 to £9 IGS. Dairy Cattle—'lhirty-four head of dairy cows were yarded, representing a very small entry. Buyers were not numerous and the quality of the entry was medium. Values were: Best cows £8 to £9 10s, medium cows £1 to £7 10s, inferior £4 to £5 Ids, best heifers £G 10s to £9. others £3 to £O. Vcalers There was not a keen demand for vealers, and the small entry satisfied what inquiry there was. The yarding was sold at late rates. Values were: Twelve to 18-mos to £7, good vealers £4 10s to £5 15s, medium vealers £3 5s to £1 7s Gd. others 21s to 355. small calves 3s to 10s.
Fat sheej)—As in the fat cattle section, fat sheep opened with prices at an advance compared with last week. Later on it hardened for wethers, but not for owes: and towards the end of the sale prices were back to last week’s average. Values were: Prime wethers 31s to 3Gs Id, medium wethers 27s to 30s. light wethers 23s to 20s Oil, extra prime ewes 31s to 33s LOd. prime owes 24s to 28s. medium ewes 20s to 235, light ewes IGs to 19s. Store slice]) There was an upward tendency in prices of store sheep, which
maintained last week’s rales. Values were: Forward four and six-tooth crossbred wethers 25s to 2Gs 3d. four and six-tooth we I hors 22s to 24s 10(1, good two-tooth wethers 20s Gd to 21s lOd. inferior two-tooth wet hers 18s Od to H)s. aged ewes and lambs IGs Gd to 18s 9d. four-looth emss-hred ewes 2is (id to 28s (id. six-tooth cross-hred owes 27s Gd. aged ewes 9s to 12s Gd. pigs—Porkers were in the majority in the fat pig pons, with only a small entry of baeoners. Porkers met with a fair demand, but baeoners were weak. Values were: Choppers C2 to £5, light baeoners 52s to G2s. heavy baeoners 03s to 70s, average price per lb. Id to 5(1; light porkers 32s to 13s. heavy porkers 43s to 50s. average price nor lb. 5Jd |» GJd. Good store pigs sold well, and prices were inclined to improve on Inst week, and were good compared with those ruling for pork and baton. The attendance of buyers was smaller than usual, and the yarding of pigs was not large.
