LOS ANGELES TRAGEDY
DOCTOR’S SON ARRESTED. (Australian & N.Z. Cable Association.) NEW YORK, Dec. 19. Messages from Los Angeles say that the greatest man hunt in the history of California is now on. A search is being made for the murderer of the 12-year old Marion Parker, daughter of Perry Parker, a prominent 1 anker. Marion was kidnapped on December loth., after which a ransom of Id.ooo dollars was demanded, which was quickly paid. On Saturday night immediately afterwards, a friend presented Parker with the mutilated tor.-o of his daughter. The remainder of the body was found later. It had been ca ref illy dissected, and dropped in five bundles, which were distributed in various points of Jubilee Park, Los Angeles. As the result of the discovery of the several parts, thousands of detectives and officers and investigators were ordered out hv the City and Country Governments to watch for all possible traces of the criminal. The entire population of Los Angeles aroused hv the gruesoniencss of the crime, are co-operating with the authorities to run down the murderer, who is believed to he within the City. The police arrested a suspect who said lie was a college man, and son of a prominent Doctor. His finger prints will match with those found on the bundles. After the radio station here broadcasted of an appeal for a reward of money, the public responded immediately, and sent in pledges necessitating a staff of ten men to count the money and six girls to handle the telephone calls. Five thousand dollars (reward was raised at eight o’clock on Sunday evening. Other radio stations are establishing similar funds as horror and indignation sweeps over the nation.
SECOND GIRL THREATENED. LETTER BY “ THE FOX.” (Received this day at 9.30 a.m). NEW YORK, Dee. 19. Marjorie Parker, sister of the murdered girl, was threatened with a similar fate at mid-night last night, in a note left on a Hollywood fire box. The note read—“ Parker, for the trouble .vou have caused, Marjorie Parker will be the next victim. Nothing can stop the Fox. They who try. know the penalty. If you warn anyone of this second success it will mean your neck. Try and get me. I am the Fox. You shall never know the real story of the first success. You will miss Marjorie at twelve o’clock.—(Signed) The Fox.” The police said the handwriting was the same as in the previous message.
