SCOTLAND DEFEAT W.VIUTAHS. (By Telegraph—Per Press Association. LONDON, Dec. 17. Scotland (10)’ defeated A\ aratahs (8). (Deceived this day at 8 a.m.) LONDON. Dec. 19. An exciting match, watched by fifty thousand resulted in the Warn tab’s first defeat in the international games. Their combination and clever resourceful attack and finish was spoilt hv Scotland’s very fast forward work and quick following up. Simmers "as m great form and led up to both tries. After a run he punted over Doss. Graham being up to get a try, Drysdale converting.
Scotland were level three minutes after Lawton had converted Ford’s try, obtained 28 minutes after tbe start, Wallace. Brnckenridge and Ford bandied. At half-time the score was . five points all. Twenty-five minutes later Simmers erosskiokod, Welsh gathering and going over, and Drysdale placed a goal. Tbe AV.-i rat abs finished strongly and great attacks ended in Jack Ford scoring a clever try. Lawton’s kick was only a yard wide. Two stoppages at half-time were not allowed for by the referee. The Wn rat nils were going strong when the whistle sounded, and might have saved the match had the time lost- been played. Still, on the play, Scotland were tbe letter side, safer in handling and better footwork by the forwards, who held their own in the scrummages and line-ouls. The Warntahs were probably handicapped bv the cold ball and frostbouncl ground. They made many slips when near the line, Wallace especially, twice coming down. The Wnratalis, however, should with the ground difficult to turn on, have exploited thp short forward p\mf pi ore.
