ALPINE TRAGEDY RECALLED

DEM A INS OK DAVID THOMSON. It is understood that during the recent course of alpine climbing by Hon. L. S. Amery and party in the vicinity of Alt. Cook, that Guide Peter Graham came across human remains at the loot of the Hoehstetter icefield. From articles found therewith it is considered certain that the remains are those of Mr David (Darhv) Thomson, one of the guides of the ill-fated mountaineering party who lost their lives while climbing Mount Cook on February 20th, 1914. The party consisted of Mr S. L. King, an English climber ol the Alpine Club, and Guides Thomson and Dichmond. The body ot the latter was recovered a few days after the disaster. Now, over thirteen years after comes the news of the finding of the remains of the second body. It is understood that the management at the Hermitage has been advised and that steps are being taken to have the remains brought to the Hermitage and thence lorwerded to Doss, where they will be interred. Tile deceased was a native of Doss and about 35 years of age at the time of his death. 'Uhere are three sisters (Mrs Whittle, oTDoss. Mrs W. Williams, of Reel ton, and Mrs \\ . J.
