SHEEP BREEDERS REQUEST MELBOURNE, Dec. 15. Application lias boon made to the Tariff Board on behalf of the Australian Society of Breeders of British sheep, for the imposition of a tariff duty on rams of more than three years old, not registered by tin approved Society or stud. James Aitken stated it had became the practice for New Zealand sheep dealers who were not breeders themselves, to export scrub rams, the residue of sheep sales, to Australia. Profits ranging up to a thousand sterling had been made from one shipment alone ol these inferior animals. Culls were sent to Australia and the progeny of these rams were having an inimical effect on Australian flocks. A serious state of affairs would arise in the wool and frozen meat trade. The inquiry was adjourned. HURRICANE DAAIAGE.
" PERTH, Dec. 15. A hurricane, accompanied by rain and hailstones of unusual sicce, caused extensive damage in Lake Grace District well at belt. Some crops were totally destroyed. The storm was confined to a narrow area. Farmers in Kondinin District also suffered. A message from Meredin estimates the loss to that district at over thirty thousand sterling. CROQUET CHAMP!OXSHIP MELBOURNE. Dee. 15. Tn the international croquet in the semi-finals of the Doubles Championship, Sir Francis Womyss and W. Richards (England) defeated Mr and Mrs C. W. Miller 16—11. Brilliant croquet was played by lvoth sides and the game lasted over two hours. In the final championship singles. C. .1. Miller (Australia) defeated Airs Hogarth (Australia! 2G—4. 26—1 (host two out of three games). Tn the final doubles championship Sir Francis Weymss and W. Richards (England) defeated Miss Retallack (England) and W. C. Windsor (Australia) 26—12.
