(By Telegraph—Per Press Association. DR CLEARY ILL. AUCKLAND, Dec. 1.3. lit. Rev. Dr. Cleary, Catholic Bishop of Auckland, underwent an operation, and is progressing favourably. He took suddenly very ill while opening a function on Saturday at the Alisericordiio Hospital, Auckland, and his condition became very serious. BROADCASTING. AUCKLAND. Dec. 14. Auckland Racing Club yesterday granted the Radio Broadcasting Cov. permission to send out a description of tin* summer meeting at Christmas and New Year.

When unharnessing a. horse in a yard the animal bolted and jammed him against an entrance post, resulting in several ribs being smashed and serious internal injuries, trom which ho succumbed a few hours later. Deceased leaves a widow and two young children .
DIVORCE GRANTED. PALMERSTON N., Dec. 14
In the Bolton divorce case, Ins Honour Justice Ostler granted a decree nisi, saying he was satisfied that the verdict of the jury meant there had been adultery and no connivance. Application was made by petitioner’s counsel for costs against Hewitt. His Honour reserved his decision on the question of leave being granted to counsel for respondent up to January 20th. to ask for a new trial. CAR THIEVES. DUNEDIN, Dec. I I.
Another chapter in the history of the doings of tlie Chevrolet gang was closed this morning when Frederick Thomas West and John -MacGregor Wilson were charged with having converted to tlioi: own use Chevrolet cars. There wen three charges against Wilson and one against West. Tlie Magistrate said accused appeared to he passengers only, rather than having taken part in the actual conversion. Both were admitted to probation for twelve months.
AGE LIMIT FOR DRIVERS. DUNEDIN, Dbe. 14
When returning the verdict that Mary Ellis Steans, aged G 4 years, was accidentally drowned through her sedan car dropping into the Taieri River on December 7th. Coroner Bartholomew at the inquest this morning commented as follows: This is a very sa<l and tragic* fatality. Evidence ip quite clear that tlie. unfortunate woman completely lost her head, possibly due to her physical condition. I have had more than one inquest now wlicit? fatality has been due to the age of the driver I think the age limit of GO years should be put on drivers, as motor traffic is increasing at such a rate it is not only in their own interests, but in the interests of tho public that the age limit should he placed on drivers. Elderly people’s faculties are not alert enough and they cannot act in emergencies. COMMITTED FOR TRIAL. PALMERSTON N., Dec. 14. The accident on the Rangitiki line nil November 10th, when a motor car, driven by Alexander Kirk Mitchell, of Nowbnr.v, collided with the Public Porks train, as a result of which Mrs .'litchell sustained fatal injuries, was the* subject of a prosecution at the Police Court this morning, when the driver of tlie ear was charged with having, while in a state of intoxication and by act of omission, caused the death of his wife. kitchen and a. bathroom. Wherever there is a siding the ear can lie shunted off the line and remain stationary as long as required. “Cruising” by train is said to have become papular elsewhere.
