He sails for Wellington by the Mamma on Friday. ROMA OIL. SYDNEY, Dec. 13. In a report to Mr Marr, Minister of Home Territories, Doctor Woolnough (Coniniomfealth Geologist) advises regarding the discovery of oil at Roma. He states in his opinion the question is not now whether hut when and where oil will be discovered, lie says the Roma discovery is genuine and of great importance. It does not necessarily follow', however, that the long awaited discovery of petroleum in commercial quantities would be an accomplished fact. The product of the Roma bore, which is technically termed filtered oil was far removed m every respect from the crude oil which is being sought. Refined oils were known in several oilfields of the world, hut in most cases they were regarded as of interest rather than of importance commercially. Tiie true significance of the Romadiscovery lays in the fact that there is now evidence of information on a very large scale, of natural petroleum in that part of Queensland. Future operations must resolve themselves into a search fqr tho still unknown oil pools, whence tho oils of Roma and other localities have been derived by migration through the rock formations.
