AIONDAY, DECK.MBER sth. The Committee mot at 7 p.m. Present—Rev. .). W. Hayward 'Chairman), -Messrs 11. R. Sw ene.v, Coulson, W. 11. Shannon, W. Clarke, R. Orr, R. J. Redder, W. E. Richards, and Conning (lion. see.). The minutes were confirmed and correspondence outward was approved. INWARD CORRESPONDENCE. From Canterbury Board in reference to subsidy for voluntary contributions; a further letter also asking if cost towards any tennis courts were involved. —Received.
From Air Oaugldoy, thanking Committee for letter of sympathy.—Received. From Education Hoard particulars of proposed vacations for 1928.—Received. From Aliss Cox, dental clinic, repart for November stating there were treated at Hokitika school 47. Ruatanu 2, Humphreys 2, lvokatahi 28, Kanieri 1. —Received. From Isabella E. AYallaee, tendering resignation as assistant teacher as from 31st January.—Received. The resignation was accepted with regret on the motion of Air Shannon, who paid a tribute to the excellent work of Afiss AYallaee as a teacher, both Committee and parents being greatly indebted to Hie lady for her excellent work. She had done good work over many years and tho school would he the loser by the severance of the very pleasant relations that had always existed between them. Seconded by Mr Swoney and carried.
From Chairman, Hospital Day Committee, inviting assistance of pupils of the school on behalf of tlie movement. —Received. It was considered that as the parents would he doing their part in that connection, that it would not he advisable to approve of the request. In connection with the visit to Hokitika on Monday next of Hon. L. C. Amory. Air Richards moved that arrangements he made for the upper standards of the school to he present at the address. Seconded bv AH Swoney and carried. The Chairman in putting the motion said he had heard the distinguished visitor on the wireless on several occasions, he who would probably speak oil high imperialistic lines on the occasion of his visit hero. The Visiting Committee (Alossrs Richards and Shannon) reported a number of small requirements; that the caretaker be requested to remove weeds from the base of the buildings. Messrs Conning and Redder were appointed visitors.
The Rector (.Mr E. Partridge) reported the weekly average attendances in the primary school were 287. 291, 289, 291 out of a roll number of .808; and secondary SI, SI. SO, 78. and roll number ol SI. In the* Proficiency examination of 33 candidates 20 obtained proficiency, (5 competency, and 1 failed. The Publ ie Service, Junior and Senior National examinations had been held and the Matriculation examinations were in progress. . The medical examination had taken place that day; Co had been raised by a concert bv ihe Childs Welfare League for Dr Rarnado’s homes; Clo was required for prizes. It was resolved that the High School would break up on Dec. 9th. and the primary school infant room in the morning, and higher standards at 2.30 p.m. on Friday, December IGtb. Notifying resignation of Miss Wallace after many years of excellent service during which she bad taken special interest in the sports club, and he desired to pay his tribute with the Committee on the excellent services rendered. - —Received. The Committee expressed satisfaction at the results of the examinations.
Authority was given for the purchase of prizes, a public appeal for donations to he made. Accounts as scheduled were passed for payment. Ailer discussion it was resolved’that the f!rounds Committee* report at next meeting as to the advisability and cost
of laying down a second tennis court. The date for the annual school excursion was lixed for February Bth. a plebiscite of the parents to be takyn for the location this week. It was resolved to send a letter ol sympathy to Reefton School Committee in connection with the recent death ol Mr R. M ills. It was resolved to meet for the next three months at 5.30 p.m. The Committee rose at 8.15 p.m.
