JERSEY SALE
The dispersal sale of the Tillingdown Jersey Stud, established hy the late Dr. 11. (). Washburn, was held at the farm, Buhmond. Nelson, on Thursday, 2tth November, before a very large and representative bench <>l buyers. Breeders from Hawke's Bay. Mannwatn, Timaru, Marlborough. West Coast, and New South Wales were present or represented. The venue of the sale and the season of the year made it quite impossible for many breeders to attend. The salt was very successful. The demand was well sustained throughout and bidding on the younger cattle, which were mostly sired by the Island-bred hull, Napoleonette’s Oxford. was particularly keen. The imported sire was secured by tbc wellknown New South Wales breeder, Mr Walter Burke for 17-5 guineas. Twen-ty-five cows and heifers in milk averaged 92-1 os, and this season’s calves 911 Bs, making the average, exclusive of the value of the hutter-fat produced this season, equivalent to 935 13s for a winter sale. The top price of 4 . guineas was paid for Gownnbrae Gem. a daughter of aipiko Josiah and Besses Jean by Belvedere Bilberry’s last. This cow, a great dairy type, was bought by Mr C. G. Stewart, of Rockville. Mr W. Neen, of Richmond, bought her bull calf by Napoleonette’s Oxford for 14 guineas. Yearling heifers uvernged £22 ds ; heifer calves £l9 os ; and bull chives £9 Cs, Lot 11.
