Hamblin, a taxi driver, was to-day sentenced to two years reformative by Judge Adams on four ‘ barges of breaking and entering. FARMERS REVOLUTIONS. WAIMATE, Dee. 5. Tlie Farmers’ Union carried the following resolution:—-“After careful consideration of the new tariff as affecting wheat and flour duties, the meeting is satisfied that the principle of a sliding scale is in the best interests of both wheat grower and consumer and the Government is strongly urged to adhere strictly to the wording of the Act and its regulations. to enable a fair trial being given of the new market stabilisation.”

The- meeting also records appreciation of the Government's action in honouring the Premier's undertaking to the farmers of Canterbury and North Otago to give the wheat grower further protection, equal to 20s per ton duty on Australian flour.

Before Magistrate Mosley to-day, I.eslio Edgar Schultz pleaded not guilty to a charge of carrying a revolver without lawful purpose, and guilty to charges of carrying a firearm without a license and of failing to register it. The police said that the pistol, fully loaded. had been found in tile mail’s hip pocket, and a torch in another. His room was searched and another pistol was found as well as a hunch of keys and a mask. Counsel said the defendant bad found the large revolver and li.id been given the other. John Scott Crawford, a railway guard who was admitted to the hospital on Friday suffering from a compound fracture of the skull and did not regain consciousness and die. about 4.30 yesterday afternoon. \ fatal accident on Sanitorium Hill, a few miles south cf AYaipukurau took place yesterday afternoon, when a motor cycle ridden by Neil Anderson, aoed 20, of Palmerston North, with Svdney Gunderson, of the same ago, of Norsewoixl, on the pillion, collided with a motor car driven by F. I>. I.uckie, a farmer, of Hastings. The latter bad just commenced the ascent of the Hill and near a bend met the cyclists, who were unable apparently, owing to shingle to get across to the lelt sole of the road, after swinging towards the water table. The latter had to be extricated from the, twisted frame of the machine under the car by the car driver and C. AY. Donald driving; also by members of Dannevirke Salvation Army band, passing by, and others from AYaipukurau. Anderson was frightfully injured and unconscious and passed away at the hospital where he was removed after being attended to by Dr Raymond at four o’clock this morning. Gunderson is still in a, oiitieal .state.
