A BRUTAL MURDER. LONDON, Nov. 29.
Four racecourse frequenters were charged at Glamorgan Assizes with the murder of David Lewis, a Cardiff footballer. i
The prosecution described it as the most brutal, beastly murder imaginable. The four surrounded Lewis, who was a fine athlete, held his arms behind his hack, and deliberately cut his throat, and then left him to die by the roadside. The prosecution contended that the whole four were guilty of murder. A KOVN'O EPISODE. (Received this day at 10.15 a.m.) LONDON, Nov. 30. The “Daily Mail's ” Riga correspondent reveals the comical side of the revolt at Kovno. On Saturday a regiment with tanks and armoured cars concentrated in one of the fortresses. The officers, under Commandant Petrutis sent an ultimatum to Smetona and Valdemaras, demanding their resignation. Yaidemaras invited the officers to breakfast and" discussed a bloodless capitulation. He served quantities of vodka and champagne, and left his guests carousing, and sought his old friend, General Pleliavichus, who gathered loyal flying officers and went to Yaidemaras assistance. Peeping into the dining-room Valdemaras saw the guests drunk. He loaded them in motor cars, and took them to gaol. It is reported they have already been executed, and that Pleliavichus has been re-instated Chief of Staff, hut another mutiny is expected.
