The Licensing Bill as it stands does not appear so far to> be giving much satisfaction to either prohibitionists or to the trade. Cynics may say that this indicates some soundness in its drafting. Be this ns it may, Mr Contes deserves credit for having tackled a serious problem, for making the Bill a non-party measure, and by appealing to the House to help him shape it into a measure acceptable to the country as a whole. The debate \un the Bill should prove both interesting and illuminating.—“Taranaki News.”
