SUPPLEMENTARY ESTIMATES
ITEMS OF INTEREST. WELLINGTON. Nov. 20. The Supplementary Estimates were introduced in the House after one o'clock to-day. They provide for a total of ({>.-■> 17. and £21.107 additional for public works. The Samoan Royal Commission inquiry involves a vote of £3OOO. The New Zealand Cricket Council, for expenses on English tour, receives £IOOO. A special grant is made to Sir Trilby King on bis retirement of €1250. There is a further appropriation in respect to the Royal visit of €5(100. Cow testing organisations receive a subsidy of L'SOOO. The Main Highways Account receives an additional sum for the construction account of €75.(100.
The working railways account has a vote of Cl:’.000 for in< reuses in the salaries of First Division olliccrs, due to re-grading.
The Education Loan Account receives €5001) for the purchase of stock for the North Island Agricultural College. Tile Internal Affairs Department lias a vote of €1250 tor the purchase cd land in connection with Taupe) fisheries. ('oiiipassiona ie allowances are €12571 to the widow of t he late Hon. R. F. Bollard. C2.'U to the widow of the late .Mr T. H. Hamer, and €l7O to tiie widow of the late -Mr W. Jnlifl’e. former lilm censor, widow, T. R. A. Smith, a postman, killed while on duty. €1010: widow of E. .1. Casey labourer, killed while on duty. €352 : widow of S. C. Koddell, linesman, killed while on duty €507 ; widow of the late P. S. AValdie. € Kit). New Zealand representation on the International Economic and Naval ('onference. €551). Subsidy grants include €SOO on a € for € basis to the Girl Guides ; Cff.7). on a € for € basis, to Lawrence flood relief; €.‘540. on the same basis, to Westport flood relief. Health Department votes include additional grants to Karitane Hospital. Christchurch, building €500; Karitane Hospital. Auckland, building £250; Karitane Hospital. Wellington, maintenance £1000; subsidies towards salaries of Blanket nurses, £IOOO. Administration expenses of Deteriorated Lands account require a vote o! £7OOO. The Department of Agriculture lias votes of £52") to Auckland University College and £SOO to Victoria University College for agricultural instruction, and
it requires £IO,OOO additional to pay rail freight concessions on manures.
Additional subsidy to teachers’ superannuation fund, £25.000. The -Mines Department has a vote of £IOO towards expenses of the Greymouth jubilee.
A compassionate allowance of £225 is made to the widow of the late J. W. Stevenson of the Hansard staff.
For the expenses of the chief, telegraph engineer, in attending the World Radio Conference £IOOO is allocated. An allowance of £2OO is made for the purpose of aequTing additional land for the Papaniti Domain.
An additional L'lo.ooo is provided for the restoration of roadworks and bridges damaged h\- Hood, and an additional £11.290 for maintenance and repairs to roads. Charges for the Commission of Enquiry into the Dobson Mine Disaster are to he met by a vote of £:?05. An additional €2ol)0 is tube provided tor the cost >'l official fund ions and the entertainment oi visitors to ill" Dominion.
The expenses of the Ministerial visit to Western Samoa arc to he met by a vote of £335. while the expenses of the Royal Commission are to lie met by a vote of £,'looo. For the professional services of counsel .£315 is provided.
