For this reason, and taking into consideration the large expenditure entailed, the Minister said that no further work should ho done until the time was more opportune. The Government, would have to hear the whole cost of the work of constructing the through road, and when consideration was given to the largo number of settlers throughout New Zealand who were without access, there remained little doubt, that the work should remain over in the meantime. The road has already eost £70,000.
