ROAD TO WAIKAREMOANA.
, OPOTJKI, Nov. 25. Tin* .Ministor of Public Works was a ski'd recently liy the Whakatane Borough Council to complete the AVai-inana-Waikarcmonna. Hoad. The AlinisItoi* has replied stating that the cost of forming a road of dray width throughout would he nlmut £83,000, hut as this road would he unsatisfactory without, metal, the cost of metalling must he taken into account. 'I his would he expensive. 11 was estimated that it would cost approximately €.132,000, bringing the tool to £215.000. The road would he of little benefit for access purposes. For this reason, and taking into consideration the large expenditure entailed, the Minister said that no further work should ho done until the time was more opportune. The Government, would have to hear the whole cost of the work of constructing the through road, and when consideration was given to the largo number of settlers throughout New Zealand who were without access, there remained little doubt, that the work should remain over in the meantime. The road has already eost £70,000.
