Christchurch, intimating that ■lB sheep. 1 lamb and 1.1 beasts have been delivered into Hokitika during the month of October, 1027, and forwarding cheque for £2 16s fid. slaughtering fees. Received. From Orey mouth Waterside Workers’ Union, applying for the use of Cass Square on the 28th January. 1028, for the purpose of their annual picnic.—Received, and request
granted. From "Wanganui City Council, asking Council to support a movement to urge the Government to reduce the amount of the proposed petrol tax from -Id to 2d per gallon.--Received. Air Evans moved that the Council regrets in the interests of the ratepayers it could not support the request. Seconded by Air Armstrong. Air Elcoek thought that they should ask that the tax collected he allocated to the various localities. Mr Dull' did not favour the motion. He felt that most of the money would not he spent on the roads. The motion was carried. From Eketahuna Chamber of Commerce, forwarding copy of resolution passed fiy that body in respect of the allocation of the petrol tax to Borough Councils.—Received. From Under Secretary. Public Works Department. AVellington. forwarding copy of draft regulations under Motor Vehicles Act. 1021, and asking fur constructive criticism in respect of regulations.- Received and referred to the Automobile Association for prompt attention. From West land Hospital Board, notifying Council, under Local Government Loans Board Regulations, of its intention to purchase Mrs 11 al- - Alaternity Home in Hampden Street as a Maternity Home for this district. Received; no objection. From District Medical Health Ollicer, forwarding copy of Health Inspector's report re wooden drain in Livingstone Street. Receiver; referred In Works Committee.

From .Manager, Abattoir, reporting lor the month of October as follows— Examined 10 cows. 20 heifers, 51 bullocks, 218 sheep, 11 lambs, II pigs, 7 calves. Condemned nil. FOREMAN’S REPORT. I iieg to report the following work were carried out during the month The first fortnight was occupied ii laying down ten chains of curbing ii Fit/.herlicrt St. between Bark am Tudor Sis., and the footpath gravelled also a portion of Gibson's Quay foot path was gravelled between Hall au< Healey Sts., finishing this section which was curbed the previous month Growth consisting of gorsc and black berries was cleared at the corner o Weld and Rolleston Sts., in Tudoi St. and in Stafford St. between Rolleston and Davie Sts. on lio’th sides ol the road. Drains were cleaned out in Weld St. between Sale and Rolleston Sts. and in Sale St. between Stafford and Weld Sts. Drainage pipes wort put in across Sale St. footpath neai Miss Walker's, and across Rolleston St. footpath at Aliss Thompson’s property. During the month nineteen 18ineh and two lit. pipes were made. The water in the reservoir averaged tilt. Bins, for the month.— Received. Mr Armstrong reported that, with Air Jell Vies a dray had been procured at a cost of C2l.—Approved. The Acting Town Clerk reported In connection with the licensing of fish shops that it would he necessary to bring the regulations of the Health Act into force, which would ensure the registration of all fish shops, ice cream shops, whitebait factories, etc.—Received ; consideration deferred.
A report was also .submitted staling that necessary repairs to the road In the rubbish dump would cost Co and until this was done action could not lie taken against'carters for not depositing rubbish in the appointed place. If was resolved to put the road in order at once and that the notification be then given that prosecutions would follow a failure to deposit rubbish in the appointed place. The Town Clerk reported on progress made in connection of insurance against accidents to he taken out by owners of petrol stands. It was resolved to give a final II days’ notice and then take definite action.
The question of the business to hr brought before eaeh meeting was raised by Mr Fleoek and it was resolved that a precis he supplied three days before each meeting night, to members when being notified of the meeting. The Council rose at 9 p.ni.
