At a sitting of the Magistrate s Court in chambers this morning before .Messrs Evans and Duff, Justices, two parents were charged with failing to send their native children to school. After hearing the evidence of the Truant Officer (Mr W. D. Maeka.v) and the explanation of the parents, convictions were recorded without costs.—

His Worship the Mayor has received a telegram from the Department of internal Affairs stating that the Secretary of State for the Dominions (Mr Amery) will be very pleased to meet the County representatives at W ailio ns proposed, but regrets that owing to the very full programme that it will not he possible to arrive at Hokitika earlier than the time already stated, 12.30 p.m. Mr Amery was also very gratified for the invitation for a public luncheon, but arrangements having been made by the Department for a private luncheon, the latter function will be duly carried out. Mr Amery, however, will be very pleased to meet the Mayor, Councillors, and public on his arrival, and if desired will he glad to address the assemblage. In connection with the above the Executive Committee will make the necessary arrangements accordingly.
